In case you haven’t been following me or Lovely Books as of late, you may not know that I have gone off the deep end. I cleaned out my savings in order to purchase a truck and camper and am traveling the country promoting books. My books, Lovely Books, and the books from the wonderful Incorgnito Publishing Press, who has graciously offered to sponsor me on this crazy adventure.
This decision did not come quickly. I had a choice. My lease was up, and I could either barely afford rent for another year, or figure something else out. With a limited income and raising rent prices, I quickly realized that I was going to be figuring something else out.
I found my inspiration from a few places. A friend of mine was in a tough spot and bought an RV to live in while she figured things out. An author I worked with, Emma Jansen, started taking photos of strangers holding her books wherever she went.
Last summer I went to the BEA in New York, and the first morning I woke up and realized I was on the other side of the country. It was incredible, but it was also easy. It was so much easier than I had expected. We get it in our heads that travel is such an impossibility. We live in our homes surrounded by psychological walls that keep us in place, keep us where it is comfortable. I realized the fallacy in this idea and realized that there was absolutely nothing holding me back from seeing the world.
This all accumulated into one amazing idea. Hit the road and put books into the hands of people in every city, in every state. Break away from the limitations of social media marketing and promote books a new way, a unique way, and change my life forever.
So I purchased a truck and a camper, and I hit the road. Myself, my two cats, and my dog have been traveling the country for a month now. I met with Incorgnito in Los Angeles and had the camper decaled with the logo. Now I am headed to Phoenix to officially begin. With at least 160 book stores in the Phoenix area, I plan on really making an impact.
